PDO Thread Lift
Often, the most pronounced signs of premature aging occur in the lower face, such as a sagging neck or drooping jowls. Even people who have been diligent about maintaining a consistent skincare routine and following good nutritional habits experience these issues eventually. If you have begun to notice these moderate signs of aging and you’re wondering what you can do to achieve an uplifted appearance without resorting to a full facelift, you may be excited to learn about a new option called the PDO thread lift.
This minimally invasive procedure provides effective facial rejuvenation – and all without major surgery or lengthy downtime. Discover how this versatile treatment can help you reclaim a naturally youthful appearance. PDO threads not only create more lift and smoothing of your face but will also lead to ongoing facial rejuvenation and you will notice a progressive improvement in the firmness and tone of your skin.
A PDO thread lift is a procedure that uses dissolvable sutures to rejuvenate and lift sagging skin. It’s a cheaper and faster alternative to facelift surgery. Recovery from the procedure is minimal and it’s often possible to return to work the same day.
What is a PDO Thread Lift?
PDO stands for polydioxanone – it is a pliable, FDA approved synthetic suture that has been used by surgeons for years. They are safe and strong which is why they are being used recently to revolutionize the world of cosmetic techniques. A thread lift relies on temporary sutures to produce a subtle but noticeable lifting effect.

What areas can a PDO thread lift treat?
Because a PDO thread lift is so versatile, it can treat virtually any area of the face. These include the:
Neck
Jowls
Jaw line
Naso jugal folds
Nasolabial folds
Crow’s feet
Undereye area
Eyebrows
Cheeks
Marionette lines
Is this treatment safe?
This treatment is completely safe. It is FDA approved for safety and efficiency. Thread lifts are low risk when performed by a qualified, experienced medical professional. There is little to no danger of scars, bleeding, or other complications after a thread lift.
What do I need to do before treatment?
Since PDO thread lifts are non-invasive, there isn’t a lot to do to prepare. However, there are some precautionary measures you can take to ensure the best results from your treatment. Here are things you should avoid one to two days before treatment:
Alcohol
Ibuprofen or aspirin unless prescribed by your doctor
Ginko
Omega fish oil supplements
Chinese medicine
Vitamin E
High-intensity workouts
Steam rooms and saunas
What do I need to do after my treatment?
The most common side effects are a few days of mild swelling and bruising which you can hide with make-up. Discomfort is minimal and it is acceptable to use Tylenol if needed. Avoid dental treatments for the first 2 weeks after your treatment, avoid strenuous exercise the day of your treatment. You will want to sleep on your back for the first couple of weeks to ensure you do not put too much pressure on one side of your face.
When will I see the results of my thread lift?
Results are visible immediately after your treatment. Results continue to improve for two to three weeks after your procedure and final results after one to two months. Your age is one of the leading factors in how quickly your body produces new, healthy collagen.
How many treatments will I need?
Most of our clients enjoy satisfactory results after just one treatment. Come in six to 9 months after your first treatment so we can determine if you need a follow-up treatment. After that, you shouldn’t need another treatment for that area for about 3 years.
Which treatments compliment a PDO thread lift?
The best complimentary treatments to your PDO thread lift depend on the results you are looking to achieve. If you are extremely concerned about lines and wrinkles exacerbated by facial movements the neurotoxins (Botox) would work best for you. If you are worried about lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers (Juvéderm) may be used in conjunction with PDO threads to increase fullness until enough collagen is produced.
What are the advantages of having a thread lift instead of a surgical facelift?
For many patients, the biggest advantage of having a thread lift rather than a facelift is the greatly reduced recovery time associated with thread lifts. When a patient has facelift surgery, he or she must be heavily sedated; as such, the patient must arrange for someone to drive him or her home from the hospital. Most facelift patients also require around-the-clock assistance from a caretaker
for at least three days after they have surgery. Facelift patients usually need to take one to two weeks off of work, too, in order to heal. Because thread lifts are much easier to perform than facelift surgery, they are much more affordable.
Recovery from a thread lift, on the other hand, is comparatively easy. Thread lifts can be performed under local, rather than general anesthesia, meaning that thread lift patients can drive themselves home and look after themselves immediately after having their procedure. While some patients will experience a little bit of soreness, redness, and swelling after having a thread lift and therefore wish to take the rest of the day off, most can return to work immediately. Strong pain medication is seldom needed after having a thread lift, making it easier for patients to return to their normal routine. This procedure is therefore ideal for people who have busy lives and/or demanding careers.
While thread lift recovery is not particularly intensive, patients will still have to take a few minor precautions while healing. It's important to make sure that you don't rub your face vigorously while cleansing it. Moisturizer should be applied lightly. You should also try to prop your head up slightly so that you don't roll over directly onto your face while sleeping.
Thread lifts are low risk, thanks to how noninvasive they are. There is virtually no risk of scarring, severe bruising, bleeding, or other complications after having a thread lift. In rare cases, patients may experience irritation, infection, or their sutures becoming visible under their skin. If this occurs, however, the sutures can simply be removed and the patient's face will return to its prior state.
